CASE (Cardiac
Athletic Society of
Edmonton) is a
group of post-treatment cardiac patients, persons interested in heart
health, and their families. With the advice of University of Alberta
medical staff, CASE has developed an excellent program
featuring exercise. It also includes social activities, patient
support and a lecture series. Our goal is to live life to the fullest
and provide support to the members and their families.
We get together for a
professionally designed and supervised exercise class twice a week. The
class consists of exercises for all the components of fitness:
aerobic fitness (cardio-respiratory and
endurance) , muscular strength and flexibility . These classes provide a
variety of activities and are designed so
you can work at your own pace.
Once a month a broader group
including exercisers and non-exercisers, their
families and friends meet experts from a variety of fields. The guest
experts
present talks on a variety of topics ranging from the latest research
in
heart disease and prevention, nutrition and retirement planning.
Social
activities play an important role in the CASE program. In
addition to the Christmas Party and
the Summer BBQ there are
golf outings
and tournaments. See CASE Activites
for a more detailed listing.
Recipes from members and friends
of CASE are shared on the
Recipe Page. Except for
the summer months, CASE publishes a Monthly
Newsletter. CASE has a membership
of over 100 men and women between the ages of 45 and 85. We have the
capacity to add new members interested in cardio-vascular fitness.
